61  French, 58  Brazilians, 26 Germans, nine Chinese, nine Italians, six Swiss, five British, five Lebanese, four Hungarians, three Irish, three Norwegians, three Slovaks, two Americans, two Moroccans and individuals from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Demark, the Netherlands, Estonia, the Philippines, The Gambia, Iceland, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Sweden and Turkey.

Give up?  These representatives of 30 nations were aboard Air France flight 447.  It is completely possible that this tragedy is the furthest reaching of its kind.  Every inhabited continent.  Countries poor and wealthy; large and small.

I can’t remember such a far reaching tragedy since the World Trade Center collapse.

Brand new Embraer 175, on its third day of service. I am seated in Seat 1A. First Class upgrade on a coach ticket. Wonderful.

This aircraft is remarkable. An absolute beauty. Everything about her is sleek and sexy, curvy and refined. We even have the pleasure of a young French pilot, his voice like chocolate to the ears.

The flight is perfect. 1A. Westside, singular first class seat with extra legroom in front as only the bulkhead stands between me and the door.

The second glass of apple juice that I sip into nothingness rattles with the delight of fresh, clean ice. The glasses here in first class are always so perfect. I want to sip scotch from these ordinary miracles every night. (more…)
